The Columbian Exchange
The columbian Exchange occurred after the continents started drifting apart and the effect of being separated for a long time it caused divergent evolution among the animals and plants. The columbian Exchange itself is “Transmission of non-native plants, animals, and diseases from Europe to the Americas”
It was an exchange of plants, foods and biological exchange between the old and new world. The Columbian Exchange also explained why the Indians nations collapsed, why European nations quickly became the wealthiest and most powerful in the world, and lastly why Africans were sold as slaves. The Columbian Exchange affected the lives of many Europeans because they obtained many new possibilities such as crops(maize, wheat, potatoes, etc), land from the Americas and slaves from Africa. |
Where did it took place?
The event called Columbian Exchange began in 1492. It began that year because that was the year the man called Christopher Columbus united the new and old world by starting to exchange plants, animals and disease between the two sides.
What did the two worlds trade?
When the New World was discovered, the Europeans saw how much potential the new land had. They brought animals and vegetables Americans had never seen before. As plants were discovered & more Europeans migrated to the new world, moreworkers were needed so they brought Africans to the Americas to work in the fields. The Natives gave things such as sugar, tobacco, and cotton to Europe and textiles and manufactured goods were sent to Africa.
